Chana Dal sweet Kozhukattai without Coconut

Hello ReadersπŸ˜€,

How are you? Hope everyone are doing great.

So yes for a couple of weeks I was unable to pen down the blog recipe. The expectation I accept that some may have attempted the eco-friendly Ganesh which was posted in my last blog entry. Okay, that was an awesome attempt that I had. Today am going to share the experience which I had while setting up the sweet Kozhukattai during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration. It was the main endeavour for me in readiness. Since it was the principal endeavour I was super excited in the preparation and was hanging tight for the celebration date. Doesn't it sound amusing? True to form the celebration date showed up and I started my readiness of sweet Kozhukattai. At the start, I figured how it would turn as it was the first attempt. I would tell by master Ganesha effortlessness it was acceptable to taste with slight jumble fit as a fiddle alone.

Let’s start with the recipe preparation

Ingredients:

Chana Dal: ¾ cup

Jaggery: 1 Cup

 Crushed Cardamom: As required

Rice Flour: 1 Cup

Salt as required

Oil as required

How to prepare the Sweet Kozhukattai?

For the Puranam readiness

  • Soak the Chana Dal for about half an hour.

  • Take a mixie and blend the soaked Chana dal to a coarse paste and keep it aside.

  • Ignite the Pan in medium flame with one cup of water added. When it starts to heat add crushed cardamom and 1 cup of jaggery to it.

  • Turn off once the jaggery lump gets removed and add the Jaggery water to the blended Chana dal Paste. Now puranam is ready.

For the rice Flour batter readiness

  • Ignite the pan in medium flame with one cup of water, when it starts to boil add one spoon of sesame oil, salt as required and add the rice flour and stir it continuously for 5 to 7 minutes to avoid lumps. Turn off the stove and let it cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

  • Make small balls out of the covering. These should be larger than the size of Puranam filling balls.
  • Now start making the cup to fill the inside with the puranam. Apply oil in your hands to avoid the sticking and start making the cups, by pinching outside of the ball. Once you flatten it all the way around, lay it on your palm and flatten the inside. Once you make the cup get the puranam inside it. Now close the cup and pinch the top of it to ensure that it is sealed well.

  • Steam it in greased idly plates or idiyappam plates for 10 to 12 minutes. Let it cool down a bit and then transfer it to a container.

  •  Do not pack it tightly. Store in spaceous container. To check for the doneness, check the sweet kozhukattai for a shiny glossy look. Once they are glossy you know they are done.
